VAN BUREN – Alphonse P. Labbe Jr., 82, died peacefully Jan. 22, 2004, at Maine Veterans Home in Caribou, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 19, 1921, in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, the son of Alphonse P. and Agnes (Guerrette) Labbe Sr. He was self-employed in the insurance firm his father established, Labbe Insurance Agency, in Van Buren for 38 years. Al was educated in Moncton, New Brunswick, and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College. He also attended Beal’s Business School in Bangor. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving at Normandy in Northern France. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1635, and the Fourth Degree Assembly of Van Buren, and was a former member of the Van Buren Rotary Club. An avid outdoorsman all his life, Al especially enjoyed fishing and traveling, whether it was just a ride in the woods or visiting with family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Gisele (Dube) Labbe of Van Buren; three daughters, Yvette Marcan and her husband, Robert, of Satellite Beach, Fla., JoAnne Labbe (Willett) of Caribou, and Lorraine Labbe of Denver, Colo.; three sons, Roger Labbe and his wife, Anne, of Lisbon Falls, Robert Labbe of Van Buren, Peter Labbe and his wife, Terri, of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey, Patrick, Eric, Ashley, Lauren, Alec, Simone, and Blake; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Madison. Relatives and friends may call at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 12 High St., Van Buren, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Monday. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church.
