LIMESTONE and CARIBOU – Althea Currier Weatherhead, 92, died Dec. 4, 2005, at Caribou. She was born Sept. 1, 1913, in Limestone, the daughter of Benjamin and Gladys (Cox) Ward. She attended Limestone schools and Lasell College in Massachusetts. For 26 years, she was happily married to Dale Currier until his death in 1959. Althea worked as an interior decorator for Currier Furniture in Caribou. She was a founding member of the Beta Sigma Phi, was a lifelong member of the social club and was a member of the Caribou Unitarian Universalist Church. Althea enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and developed lifelong friendships with many of the ladies she played with. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a highly talented artist and enjoyed producing finely stenciled pieces. Althea was married to Verne Weatherhead and enjoyed more than 30 years of memories until his death in 2000. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Barbara Currier of Caribou and Jeffrey and Gig Currier of King Salmon, Alaska; one sister, Valeska Lombard of Caribou; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Currier) Ayer and her husband, Aaron, of Caribou, Dale Currier of Presque Isle, Anicia (Currier) Estes and her husband, Steve, of Cordova, Alaska and Jason Currier and his wife, Debbie, of Unalakleet Alaska; four great-grandchildren, all of Alaska; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Althea is also survived by Verne’s children, Jim Weatherhead and his wife, Cathy, Scott Weatherhead and his wife, Judy, Frank Weatherhead, Dale Weatherhead and Jane (Weatherhead) Griffith and her husband, Fred and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at a date and time to be announced in the summer of 2006. Friends who wish to contribute in Althea’s memory may do so through the charity of one’s choice.
