OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Althea M. Haines, 64, formerly of Scarborough, died peacefully Tuesday morning, July 11, 2006, surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. Althea was born July 20, 1941, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, and moved to Fort Fairfield at the age of 7. She was always a role model for her children as reflected in her giving and supporting of others. She made friends to all that she came in contact with. Althea had a zest for life and survival that she carried with her to the very end. She will be missed by her card game partners. Her favorite hobby was crocheting afghans, which she lovingly gave as gifts to all family members. She did everything from picking potatoes on her family’s farm to running a drug store for 20 years and also having her own cleaning business in which she took great pride. Althea will be missed by all. Throughout her life she has been an inspiration and mentor to all who have loved her. She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Alma McCarthy; brothers, Conrad and Alton; sisters, Elizabeth Cassidy and Gilberta McCarthy. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gary D. Haines Sr.; as well as five children and their spouses: Cindy and Martin Dwyer of Florida, Jeff and Ann Haines of Saco, Heidi and Peter McDonald of Scarborough, Gary D. Haines Jr. of Old Orchard Beach, Hollie and Dave Ouellette of Scarborough. She will be lovingly missed by grandchildren, Daniel Dwyer and his wife, Danica, Kathryn Dwyer, Kelli Haines, Michael and Ryan Haines, Sean McDonald and Micheala and Nicholas Ouellette; her sisters, Bernice Goodine, Geneva Beaulieu, Glenna Pelletier, Leona and Sandra McCarthy. She will be sadly missed by all. Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. Burial will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
