FORT FAIRFIELD and CARIBOU – Alton J. “Spud” Fox, 76, husband of Mrs. Lorena M. Fox, died unexp-ectedly Friday, March 19, 2004, at a Caribou healthcare facility. He was born Oct. 22, 1927, at Perham, the son of Ross and Vesper (Oliver) Fox. He attended Perham schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the Pacific and participated in the occupancy of Japan. He was married to Lorena M. Sirois on Nov. 15, 1953, and was a member of the Lions Club, Presque Isle. A very loving and caring person, Alton was an active and devoted member of the Caribou Bethel Pentecostal Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer. He was an avid fisherman and loved his family and faith. Alton worked as a car salesman with his brother, Maurice, at Fox Motors in Caribou for many years and also had been employed as a truck driver. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fox was predeceased by five brothers, Williard, Maurice, Freeman, Keith and Gordon Fox; one sister, Ruth Miller. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Lorena M. Fox of Fort Fairfield; six sons, Duane Fox and his wife, Tori, of Vernon, Conn., Byron Fox of Presque Isle, Robert and Gregory Fox, both of Fort Fairfield, Larry Fox of Lewiston, Alton Fox II and his wife, Jeannie, of Fort Fairfield; two daughters, Bonnie Taggett and her husband, Ralph, of Fort Fairfield, Karen Hill and her husband, Larry, of New Vinyard; two sisters, Edith Hardy of Island Falls, Margaret “Peggy” Buzzell of Chaplin, Conn.; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, 294 Access Highway, Caribou, with the Rev. Roger Jewell officiating. Interment will take place at the Dyer Brook Cemetery later in the spring. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, Caribou, immediately following the funeral service.
