OAKLAND – Roland C. Foster, 67, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his residence. He was born in Bridgewater, the son of Elmer and Viola (Gallupe) Foster. Roland graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Kagnew Association stationed in Africa. He owned and operated his own business, Foster Tree and Landscaping, for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Maine Arborist Association and of the Oakland United Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar, and wrote several gospel songs along with singing in a trio. He loved camping and snowmobiling. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leida (Brown)Foster; a son, Kirk Foster and his wife, Tracey, of Oakland, also John McCann, who was like a son to Roland; sisters, Dolores Codrey of Monticello, Laurena Viall of Deltona, Fla., Janice Miller of Mars Hill, Betty Cronkhite of Blaine and Susan Perkins of Presque Isle; brothers, Lawrence Foster Sr. of Oakland, Stephen Foster of Ellsworth, Hal Foster of Monticello and Brent Foster of Bar Harbor; four grandchildren who were a special part of his life, Jamie, Courtney, Dylan and Madyson Foster, all of Oakland; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Karl Foster and a brother, James Foster. A celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m., March 27, at the Oakland United Baptist Church with the Rev. Andrew Kane officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home of Oakland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Parkinson Foundation, 1501 North West 9th Ave, Miami, FL 33136.
