BANGOR – Alvah Raymond Smith, 90, passed away Jan. 1, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 13, 1917, in Veazie, the son of Harry E. and Vivian C. (Kenney) Smith. Alvah served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for the State of Maine as a heavy equipment mechanic, retiring in 1979. Alvah was a member of Rising Virtue No. 10 AF & AM of Bangor and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was also a longtime member of the Good Sam Club. Alvah was predeceased by his beloved wife, Norma (Dyer) Smith, in 2002; and by a daughter, Judith E. (Smith) Walsh. He is survived by three children, Richard B. Smith of Casa Grande, Ariz., Alan K. Smith of Bangor and Michelle McLaughlin of Hampden; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie, at a time to be announced in the spring. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
