NEW SWEDEN – Amy M. (Holmquist) Ireland, 90, died April 17, 2004, with her family at her side. She was born Oct. 24, 1913, at Woodland, the daughter of Charles and Damie (Goucher) Norsworthy. Amy was married to Wilbert J. Homquist of New Sweden for 53 years until his death in 1993. Wilbert and Amy had three daughters, Peggy, Jane and Norma. For the past eight years, she was married to Carl C. Ireland, whom she married in Plant City, Fla., on April 2, 1996. Amy enjoyed all aspects of life. She was a charter member of the New Sweden Health Council, past president and member of the Local BPW, past officer ad charter member of the Nordic Lakers, 50-year member of the Extension Services of Maine, and was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of New Sweden. In the year 2000, she received a special health and fitness for the ages 80-89 given by the Aroostook Medical Center. She was employed by Dr. CL. Donahue and Dr. Tilak Pathiraja until her retirement. Amy’s quick smile and open heart touched everyone she met. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her boundless love, support and energy. She held a zest for life and especially enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, gold, skiing, bridge, dancing and family gatherings at Madawaska Lake. She is survived by her husband, Carl Ireland of Presque Isle; daughters, Peggy Nelson of Nobleboro, Jane Murphy of Westbrook, Norma Brenton of Bangor and their spouses; stepchildren, Wayne Ireland of Gorham, Dale Ireland of Hollywood, Calif., Carol Harrell of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Terri Nelson, Traci Halvorson, Trudi Shaw, Geoffrey Leshane, Scott Leshane, Kyle Brenton, Samuel Murphy, Tyler Brenton; stepgrandchildren, Nora Murphy, Danny Murphy, Caitlin Murphy; great-grandchildren, Carla Halvorson, Cody Halvorson, Jacki Shaw, Kyle Nelson-Marois, Zachary Nelson-Marois, Gabrielle Leshane. She will be remembered by several close and dear friends, Louise Norsworthy, Maggie Hersey, Dot and Phil Tomilson. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilbert J. Holmquist; two sisters, Beulah (Norsworthy) McNeal and Bessie (Norsworthy) Bird; and by two brothers, Harold Norsworthy and Gerald Norsworthy. Family and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Shelly Timber, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church of New Sweden, officiating. Spring Interment will be at the New Sweden Cemetery, New Sweden.
