CUMBERLAND – Angus Houston Mountain, 50, of Cumberland, died May 4, 2004, at his home with his adoring wife by his side. He was born on April 28, 1954, in Dexter, a son of Harold R. and Janis Houston Mountain. Angus was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy in Dover Foxcroft, Class of 1972. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1977 and began his accounting career at Arthur Young and Co. He became a CPA in 1979. Angus was a principal at the firm of Baker Newman & Noyes, which was established in 1995. On July 15, 1978, Angus married the former Nickolette Higgins in Bangor. Angus was a dedicated and successful businessman in the Portland, Maine and Manchester, N.H. areas. He served as a past president of the Cumberland County Civic Center Board of Directors. He was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Maine Cancer Foundation. Angus calculated the annual tallies for the Fitzpatrick Trophy Award for several years. He also supported and participated in numerous other charitable events and activities in his community. Angus was a member of the Falmouth Country Club where he served as a Board member for several years. At UMO, he was past president of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, where he developed many life long friendships, which have developed into solid business relationships. He was the best kind of friend extremely knowledgeable about many subjects. Angus was approached frequently by friends and family and asked for counsel. People loved Angus and respected him deeply. He was an avid sports fan loyal to the end to his beloved Red Sox. He loved to sing in the shower and drive his BMW convertible with the wind blowing through his hair. He truly enjoyed his Saturday morning golf outings with his regular group dubbed “The Beaters.” He loved his family and his wife’s family deeply. He had a very generous spirit and shared this with everyone he met. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, Nicky. They had a love that was literally visible. The two of them were constantly together. He loved to travel. They traveled to many of the major cities in the U.S. and made frequent trips to the Caribbean and Nantucket Island. He is survived by Nickolette, his loving wife of 26 years from Cumberland; his parents, Harold and Janis Mountain; a sister Tamara Moore, all of Dover Foxcroft, and a brother, James Mountain of Bangor. He also leaves behind his wife’s family who adored him, her eight siblings and their spouses; his mother-in-law, Jean Higgins, of whom he was very fond. He had 21 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. This man is going to be missed very deeply by so many. He lived his life well. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Conroy-Tully South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, 360 Canco Road, Portland. Burial will held in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter, on Tuesday. If so desired donations may be made to the following scholarship fund in Angus’s name. It is a memorial fund dedicated to Angus Mountain’s best friend from his childhood, Jon B.
