SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Ann Dionne died Friday, July 25, 2008, with her family by her side, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. Ann was born Feb. 4, 1935, at South Shore Hospital, Weymouth, Mass., to Helen (Bartlett) Belcher and Norman Ells Belcher. Ann was a loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great pride in raising her family. Ann and Henry Dionne came to Mount Desert Island en route to Nova Scotia on their honeymoon in 1974. They fell in love with the island, skipping Nova Scotia entirely and moved here permanently in 1986. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years and at Mount Desert Island Hospital for a number of years before retiring. She loved gardening, horses, reading and hiking, and was a member of Footloose Friends and volunteered at Southwest Harbor Library. Ann is survived by her children, Malcolm B. Sewell of Peterborough, N.H., Karen E. Mafera and Gregory Sewell, both of Weymouth, Mass., Diana S. Johnson of Plymouth, Mass., Tamara A. Sewell of Brooklyn, N.Y., Joseph H. Dionne of Tremont, Henry “Bob” J. Dionne Jr. of Brunswick, Nancy Medeiros of Augusta, Ellen Pihl of Scituate, Mass., Alfred Dionne of Hampton, N.H., and Michael Dionne of Rockland, Mass.; her brother, Norman Belcher of Las Vegas; two sisters, Alma Boyle of Harwich, Mass., and Norma Arlington of California; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, David Sewell, in 1994; her second husband, Henry J. Dionne, in 2002; a sister, Dorothy Hicks; and a brother, Fred Belcher. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30.
