ASHLAND – Anne F. (Gillis) Casey, 63, passed away quietly and peacefully March 21, 2007, at a Mars Hill nursing home. She was born July 10, 1943, in Meriden, Conn., the oldest daughter of Lawrence and Olean (York) Gillis. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to the Ashland area where Anne resided most of her life as one of eight children. Anne was employed as a floor supervisor with Potato Service/Simplot/McCains for many years. Most recently she enjoyed spending time with family and was always up for a challenging game of cards with her grandchildren. She truly enjoyed camping and was known for her beautiful houseplants, her love of springtime flowers, watching the bluejays at her bird feeder, and listening to her wind chimes. She also spent many enjoyable hours reading. She will be sadly missed beyond compare by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her mother, Olean (York) Gillis Eastman of Garfield Plantation, she is survived by one son, John Casey Sr. and his wife, Mary and their children, John Jr. and Samantha, all of Ashland; one daughter, Kathy Casey of Presque Isle and her daughter, Alicia Osgood, of Ashland; three sisters, Polly Harvey and her husband, Ron, of Fort Fairfield, Susan McHatten and her husband, Kendall, of Castle Hill, and Lori McKenzie of Mapleton; three brothers, Wendell Gillis and James Eastman of Garfield, and Clyde Eastman Jr. of Ashland; a dear friend of 30 years, Jean Hafford of Ashland; a special nephew, who was more like a son, Doug MacDonald of Masardis; several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Lawrence Gillis; by a sister, Jennie MacDonald; and stepfather, Clyde Eastman Sr. Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. Sunday, March 25, until time of service at Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A committal service and interment will be later this spring at Ashland Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in her memory to the American Lung Association. To leave online condolences, please visit www.ouellettefuneralhome.com
