HOULTON – Annie Duffield McCarthy, died Monday, March 26, 2007, at the Gardiner Health Care Facility, Houlton. She was born in 1912, in Vancouver, British Columbia, the daughter of William and Annie (Cunliffe) Duffield. Annie attended schools in Woodstock, New Brunswick, and moved to Houlton in 1937 when she married Clayton “Jeff” McCarthy. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed doing needlework of any kind. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Houlton, and was an active participant in many activities at the church. She loved to walk with friends, entertain neighbors on her porch, and meet the group for coffee at McDonald’s. Gathering her family together for special occasions was a great source of happiness for her. Annie was predeceased by her husband in 1985. She is survived by one son, Gerald “Jerry” McCarthy of Houlton; her daughters, Lois and her husband, Merle Fenlason, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Marilyn and her husband, Alvin Martin, of Benedicta; her grandchildren, Heather McCarthy of Bangor, Alicia and her husband, Andrew Forster, of Oakland, Scott and his wife, Beth Martin, of Patten, Erika and her husband, Chris Drzmalla, of Landstuhl, Germany, and Heidi McCarthy of Portland; her great-grandsons, Jeffery and Joshua Martin of Patten. Annie’s family thanks the staff at the nursing home for their care, compassion, and loving support. You helped her find joy in her surroundings. We also thank her many friends for their visits, cards, and prayers. Your thoughtfulness was a source of comfort to us all right up until her death. She was truly blessed. A memorial service will be held later in the spring, at a time and date to be announced.
