DEXTER and LARGO, Fla. – Antoinette Osgood, 75, wife of the late Basil W. Osgood, died Nov. 20, 2005, at a Dexter healthcare facility. She was born April 9, 1930, in Pittsfield, a daughter of J.E.A. and Eva (Swift) DeRaps. She graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1949, Farmington State Teacher’s College in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree in home economics and the University of Maine Orono in 1960 with a masters degree in education. She taught at Manson Park School and Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Hartland Academy, Ellsworth High School and at Dexter Regional High School until her retirement in 1984 after 30 happy, dedicated years of teaching. Over the years she was very active in many educational organizations and related groups. In 1981, Antoinette was named Maine Home Economics Association Teacher of the Year for developing a creative and innovative health and home economics curriculum. She led many workshops and supervised one or two student teachers from the University of Maine Farmington and the University of Maine Orono each year from 1955-1984. She remained active in education during her retirement in Largo, Fla. where she volunteered for many years at the elementary schools. In addition to her husband, Basil, Toni was also predeceased by a brother, Clarence. She is survived by a son, Michael Buckley of Harmony; two brothers, Perley Ettinger of Pittsfield and Roy DeRaps and wife, April, of Palmyra; two sisters, Mary Tuttle and husband, Arnold, of Clinton and Doreen DeRaps of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Lauren and Meghan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Private interment will be in the Corinna Village Cemetery.
