OLD TOWN and LONDONDERRY, N.H. – Arlene E. (Strout) Flanders, 80, died Nov. 9, 2004, at a Manchester, N.H., hospital after a long illness. She was born in Old Town Dec. 18, 1923, the daughter of Stephen and Laura (Hesseltine) Strout. She lived in Old Town for 80 years before moving to Londonderry, N.H. Arlene graduated from Old Town High School and had worked for several years at the University of Maine before retiring to care for her mother and father. Arlene leaves behind her loving husband, Everett, of 61 years; a sister-in-law, Muriel Reed of The Villages, Fla.; a son, Roger Flanders and his wife, Donna, of Milford; a daughter, Cynthia and her husband, Daniel Christensen of Londonderry, N.H; a daughter-in-law, Judith (Reid) Flanders of Hampden; nine grandchildren, Michael Flanders of Portland, Stephen Flanders and his fianc?e, Kim Sealy, of Carmel, Seth Flanders and his fianc?e, Katie Feland of Carmel, Nicole (Flanders) Twombly and her husband, Jason, of Rochester, N.H., Lauralee (Flanders) Underwood and her husband, Derrick, of Old Town, Jody (Christensen) Anderson and her husband, Daniel, of Londonderry, N.H., Scott Christensen and his fianc?e, Jennifer Bernard, of Manchester, N.H., Timothy Christensen and his wife, Kristin, of Hamden, Conn., and Eric Christensen of Londonderry, N.H. She also leaves behind a great-granddaughter, Gracie Twombly, and a great-grandson, Nathan Anderson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arlene was predeceased by a son, Brian in 1977; two sisters, Helen Peavy in 1991 and Myrtle Wing in 1996. Arlene was an active Member of the Old Town United Baptist Church, serving on many committees and to this date was a member of the Church for the longest time, 68 years. She enjoyed family and friends and most recently her two great-grandchildren. Remember Arlene in this special way, as a loving, caring, devoted, lovely lady who always thought of other’s needs above her own. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, Old Town Chapel, 205 Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Baptist Church, 101 Middle St., Old Town, with Rev Bruce Stevens, pastor, and Rev. Andrew Spohrer, officiating. Interment will be in Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services Saturday at the United Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
