HOWLAND – Arlene Mary Swedberg, 80, died May 30, 2004, at a local hospital after a short illness. She was born July 29, 1923, in Howland, the daughter of Arthur and Eunice (Beathem) York. Arlene was a selfless person who always thought of others first. She loved making crafts to give to others, and was especially known for her great cooking. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife of more than 50 years to the late Roger Swedberg Sr. Being a member of the Howland Baptist Church for more than 60 years, she served the Lord by being a Sunday school teacher, singing in the choir, and involvement in many church activities. She is survived by her son and his wife, Roger and Cheryl Swedberg Jr. of Old Town; seven grandchildren, Roger Swedberg III and his wife, Heidi, of Old Town, Ethan, Rachel, Noah, Hannah and Abigail Swedberg, Melissa Elizabeth; a great-granddaughter, Faith Alyssa Swedberg; a sister-in-law and her husband, Alberta and Herbert McCrossin of Greenfield; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Howland Baptist Church, with Pastor Alan Porter officiating. Interment will be in Howland Cemetery.
