ARLINE A. (MADDAN) SANBORN BREWER and WINDHAM – Arline A. (Maddan) Sanborn, 97, passed away on Oct. 31, 2003, at Ledgewood Manor in Windham. She was born April 29, 1906, in Milford, a daughter of Remington and Jessie (Ashe) Maddan. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1924 and Farmington State Teachers College, where she received her degree in teaching. She taught school in several Maine towns before retiring in 1968. She was a member of the Maine Teachers Association, the National Education Association, and the Maine Association of Retirees. Her favorite hobbies included crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, and working her beautiful flower gardens. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by a daughter, Dale J. Johnston and her husband, Michael, of Raymond; a son, Earle C. Sanborn and his wife, Susan, of Windham; a sister, Leona Madden of Bangor; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton H. Sanborn, in 1984; a granddaughter, Linda J. Johnston, in 1994; a brother, Rodney Madden; and a sister, Gloria Martin. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday Nov. 3, 2003, at the Cardville Cemetery, Cardville. Arrangements by Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
