DEXTER – Arthur A. Chapman, 79, died peacefully April 14, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at a Dover-Foxcroft health care facility. He was born March 1, 1928, in Hartland, the son of Rollins and Laura (Bryant) Chapman. Arthur grew up in Hartland and St. Albans, graduating from Hartland Academy in 1947. In 1947 he moved to Ripley, where he met Evelyn Sevey and married November 1953 in Dexter. Arthur served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Eastland Woolen Mill, Great Northern Paper Co., FayScott, and also worked in the woods before entering barber school in Lewiston in 1962. In 1965 he started his own barber shop business, which he owned for 35 years, where he enjoyed socializing with his customers. Aside from his family, he loved working in the woods and barbering. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Evelyn (Sevey) Chapman; two sons, James A. Chapman and his wife, Karen, of Dover-Foxcroft and Galen E. Chapman and his wife, Kelly, of Dexter; one brother, Edward Chapman and his wife, Thea, of Pittsfield; one sister, Mary Sevey of Ripley; four grandchildren, Nikki, Michelle, Matthew and Ashley; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Graveside services will be private for the family this spring at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
