NEW LIMERICK – Evelyn Wilcox, 98, died April 16, 2007, in New Limerick. She was born Nov. 11, 1908, in New York City, the daughter of Louis and Emily (Veprovsky) Stephens. Evelyn earned an master’s business administration degree at St. John’s University in 1960. She married Milton Seabury Wilcox of Cary and Tiverton, R.I., March 1941. Evelyn was the vice president and chief executive officer of Fawcett Publications from 1965 to 1980. She was a republican party chairwoman for New York State from 1950 to 1963 and was a member of Cresthaven Country Club since 1946. She is survived by her son, George L. Wilcox Sr. and his wife, Christine, of New Limerick; one grandson, George L. Wilcox Jr. of Houlton; one granddaughter, Susan Dietter and her husband, Mike, of Craryville, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Merrill of Old Westbury, N.Y.; a nephew and two nieces. She was predeceased by her parents; one sister, Eleanor Theisen in 1980; and one brother, Warren Stephens in 2003. At Evelyn’s request there will be no services.
