CORINTH- Arthur “Art” C. Thomas, 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 26, 2007, after a brief illness. He was born in Caribou, on March 25, 1935 to Allan and Enid Thomas. Arthur grew up in Aroostook County where he worked on his family?s farm. He left school in 1954 to join the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Arthur married the love of his life Dorothy Fern (Hunter) on August 7, 1957. He will be missed dearly by his wife of 50 years Dorothy, his seven children Henry & Leigh Felch of Colorado Springs, Linda & Rodney Bourgoine of Washburn, Allan & Becky Thomas of Caribou, Irene Thomas & Craig Kosobud of Eddington, Diane & Paul Beliveau of Gorham, Sandra Thomas of Norway, and Pam Thomas of Bangor. He?ll also be missed by his fourteen grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Irene, granddaughter Tabatha & great grandchildren Austin, Kaden, Gage and Mckaeyla of Hermon. All of which he spent a great deal of time with. Arthur was especially proud of his grandson Timothy who left home to join the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego, CA. Arthur is also survived by three brothers: Stan Thomas of Woodland, Robert & Ellie Thomas of Woodland, Charles & Shirley Thomas of Londonderry N.H. Two sisters: Emilie & Henry Martin of Stockholm, Ruth & Jared Tozier of Lynchburg, VA. Special family friend Edna Drake of Woodland. Art enjoyed his work as a Truck Driver. Through his many years of employment he worked for P. D. Coakley, Nelson Freightways, and M&M Freightways, Consolidate Freightways, John T. Noble of Caribou. A major accomplishment in Arthur’s life was earning his high school diploma from Bangor High School in 1986. Arthur was an active member Grange in Caribou, Bangor and Queen City for a number of years. After his retirement from driving truck, Art enjoyed the last 14 years at Rowe?s Garage in Corinth ?working? whether it was driving wrecker, running parts, or just putting around the shop. Art could always be found at the local convience store early in the morning socializing and having his morning coffee. He was a hard worker, a great guy, a wonderful father & an even better grandfather!!!! He will greatly be missed all who took the time in our busy lives and got to know just how special a person he really was! A funeral service will be held 7pm Saturday December 29, 2007 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St. Bangor with the Rev. Matthew Ward pastor of Charleston Pentecostal Church officiating. Relatives and friends are welcomed to call 5pm until time of service on Saturday. Spring interment will be in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
