PRESQUE ISLE – Arthur Donald Currier died March 26, 2005, at Palisades Manor Nursing Home in Garretson, S.D. He was born Feb. 21, 1912, in Presque Isle, to William and Grace (Munn) Currier. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1932 playing for the Wildcats in the 1927-32 football league. In 1941, he married Amy Elizabeth Libby of Blaine. He served in the Army Air Corp with the 461st Bombardment Group in Italy during World War II. Arthur was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office in the Presque Isle office until his retirement in 1973. Following retirement, he and Amy spent winters in Florida. Arthur received his 50 year gold membership card in the National Association of Letter Carriers in 1988. The card was the first to be given in Aroostook County. In addition, he also received a blue and gold jacket presented by local branch 2394. Having a love for flying, a great pleasure in his life was a flight he took in 1991, in a TF-51 while in Florida. During that flight he was able to fly the airplane. In the 1990’s he was able to attend several reunions of his military unit. He was a member and deacon emeritus of Bethany Baptist Church in Presque Isle. In l999, he moved to Brandon, S.D. to live with his daughter and family. He was predeceased by both his parents, his wife and his five brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Preston and husband, Eugene, of Brandon, S.D.; and two sisters-in-law, Irene Currier and Viola Everett, both of Presque Isle. He also has two grandchildren, Andrew Preston of Alexandria, Minn. and Janelle Preston of Brandon. In addition he has many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Bethany Baptist Church in Presque Isle with the Rev. James Ackerson officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Spring interment will be in Tapley Cemetery, Blaine.
