MELBOURNE, Fla. – Athalie Allen Gilles, 81, died peacefully at her daughter’s home Sept. 22, 2004, after a serious illness. She was born in Shirley Mills, Oct. 30, 1922, the daughter of Clouse and Phebe (Davis) Allen. She had worked as an office worker and a professional chef. She enjoyed family gatherings, reading, genealogy, history, politics, gardening, cooking and talking about her granddaughter. She is survived by her sister, Vivian (Allen) McKeon of Shirley Mills; her son, Larry Gilles of Russell Island, Australia; her daughter, Jana (Gilles) Gabrielski, son-in-law, Joseph Gabrielski and granddaughter, Alexandra Gabrielski, all of Melbourne, Fla. She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Elwood Allen and her sister, Iona (Allen) Dunton. She was a devoted friend and family member and will be sadly missed. A memorial service will be held during the week of Thanksgiving and a committal service will be held this coming summer, both in Shirley Mills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the “Town of Shirley Mills Honor Roll Fund”, Shirley Mills, ME 04485.
