LEBANON, N.H. and MACHIAS – Barbara VanVoorhees, 68, formerly of Machias, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at a Lebanon, N.H. medical center. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 14, 1935, the daughter of Joseph and Thelma (Watson) Blank. In 1948 the family moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., and Barbara graduated from Palm Beach High in 1953. She graduated from the University of Florida in 1957, and received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Connecticut in 1981. She was an accomplished classical pianist and songwriter, composing many songs about children. She was devoted to the issue of disadvantaged children, and was a foster parent for many years. Between 1991 and 2001 she lived in Machias, where she was a family therapist in private practice. She was predeceased by her sister, Jo Beverly Albury, in 1980; and by her daughter, Beverly Seaton in 2002. She is survived by her husband; three daughters; and two grand-children.
