REDDING, Pa. and MARS HILL – Attle M. Smith died unexpectedly Nov. 13, 2004. He was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Mars Hill, the seventh child of Harold W. and Geneva (MacDougal) Smith. He was raised in that close knit farming community and graduated from A.C.I. in 1946. Attle then owned, operated and managed potato farms until he relocated to Pennsylvania. He most enjoyed the garden, hunting camp with his brothers and any event or activity that included his family, and exercising his wry wit. He is survived by three children, Dennison A. (and Marjorie) of Hampden, Harold W. of Bridgewater, Carletta M. (and Louis) Bassano of Ellsworth; their mother, Edna (Tidd) Smith of Bridgewater; two grandchildren, Attle Smith of Hampden and Jessica Smith of Hersey, Pa.; brother, Herschel A. of Mars Hill; two sisters, Marion Grandchamp of Orono and Barbara Hotham of Blaine; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara A. (Moyer) Smith; four brothers, Philip, Ralph, Hubert and Stuart; and one sister, Opal Cushman. Graveside services were held at the Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading, Pa. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Jan. 2, 2005, at Dennison Smith’s home in Hampden.
