VANCEBORO- Aubrey T. Raye, 96, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 22, 2006, at Calais Regional Hospital. He was born July 21, 1910, in Calais, the son of Frank and Icy (Trafton) Raye. Aubrey was employed by Maine Central Railroad for more than 40 years. As the oldest resident of Vanceboro, he was the holder of the Boston Post Cane. He is survived by three sons, Clifford A. Raye and his wife, Joyce Knox Raye, of Pittsfield, Merle Raye and his wife, Helen Anderson Raye, of Vanceboro and Max O. Raye and his wife, Cynthia Wishart Raye, of Vanceboro; a daughter Faye Raye Freeman and her husband, Dale Freeman, of Dover, N.H.; one sister, Maxine Pease of Pittsfield; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grand-children, seven great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Sadie (Caldwell) Raye; two brothers, Joseph F. Raye of Detroit, Maine, and Clifford Raye of Old Orchard Beach; and one sister, Thelma Cropley of Clinton. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the Vanceboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating. Interment will be at Vanceboro Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Aubrey’s name to the United Methodist Church of Vanceboro or the Calais Regional Hospital – Palliative Care Unit.
