GARDINER – Barbara B. Brooks, 80, of Highland Avenue Apartments, Gardiner, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Grey Birch Nursing and Rehab in Augusta. Barbara was born Jan. 26, 1926, in South Paris, the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Gibson) Bennett. Upon her retirement from the Maine State House in Augusta, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and soul mate, Hollis. She loved reading and was a big fan of Catherine Cookson. She also enjoyed her friends at the apartments and loved to go out to eat and to treat family members. She is sadly missed by her family of six sons, Alfred Brooks of Robbinston, Merrill Brooks of Robbinston, Gerald Watt of Bucksport, John A. Brooks of Robbinston, Stuart Murphy of New Brunswick, Daniel Murphy of Winterport; four daughters, Muriel Brooks of Calais, Barbara A. Brooks of Perry, Marion “MC” Gouldrich of Calais, Joan Beverly Brooks of Federal Way, Wash.; a brother-in-law, John K. Brooks of Robbinston, 18 grandchildren, several great-grand-children and great-great-grand-children; also a great friend and true angel, Cheryl Glidden. A graveside service will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local cancer society.
