WASHBURN – Barbara Clucas Umphrey, 88, of Washburn, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, while in New Hampshire with her daughter. Barbara was born in Saugus, Mass. She graduated from Tufts University, where she met and later married her devoted husband, Donald. Barb and Don shared 61 years together during which time they hosted wonderful gatherings at their home. Barb was always known for her gourmet cooking, her love of the theater, both on stage and off, her winters spent in the Florida sun and summers at her camp in New Hampshire. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and her two sisters. She is survived by her son, G. Robert Umphrey; her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Edmund Dinsmore; her four grandchildren, Marc and Ryan Umphrey, Michael Farmer and Katharine Lagace; her three great-grandchildren, Clinton, Cameron and Connor Lagace; and her four special nephews, John and Peter Rollins, William and Harry McCall. Barb will be especially missed by her longtime neighbor, Mavis Carter; her very good friend, Bern Rossignol; and her childhood friend, Constance Putnam. Services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice at HCS, P.O.
