THOMASTON – Barbara Day, 86, a former longtime resident of Thomaston, passed away Friday, July 13, 2007, at Westgate Manor, Bangor, after a long illness. She was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Myrtle and James Bryant. She attended local schools. Barbara worked in Bath during World War II, supporting the war effort along with her sister, Beryle. On Aug. 31, 1942, she married Basil Day. They made their home in Thomaston, where they operated George’s River Boat Shop for many years. Barbara worked behind the scenes in the business, responsible for the bookkeeping, billing, appointments and correspondence. Barbara enjoyed cooking, gardening and making beautiful hooked rugs, which she proudly displayed at their home and cottage. She loved summers spent at their cottage on Washington Pond. She was predeceased by her sisters, Beryle Bryant, Millicent Kilton and Lurene Verrill; and her brother, Vaughn Bryant. She is survived by her husband, Basil Day of Bangor; her brother-in-law, Cecil Day and his wife, Martha, of Belgrade; nine nieces and nephews, Maureen Roberts of Machias, Julian Kilton of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Deborah Springer and her husband, Bob, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Larry Bryant and his wife, Brenda, of Brewer, Joyce Goodine and her husband, Tommy, of Glenburn, Carolyn Swadley and her husband, Steve, of Auburn, Wash., J Verrill and his wife, Sally, of Rochester, N.H., James Verrill of Dover, N.H., Timothy Verrill and his wife, Wendy, of Lisbon; great-nieces and great-nephews, Vicki Kilton and her husband, Jimmy, of Roque Bluffs, Ricky Frye and his wife, Barbara, of Bangor, Lisa Gross and her partner, Kathy McPherson, of Machiasport, Barb Yentsch and her husband, Mike, of Winter Park, Fla., Dain Bryant of Orrington, as well as other great-nieces and great-nephews. Visiting hours will be held noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Hall & Bibber Funeral Home, 78 Main St., Thomaston, where a memorial service will be held 2 p.m., proceeded by interment at Village Cemetery, Thomaston.
