ORRINGTON and BANGOR Barbara J. Miller, 73, passed away March 18, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a long struggle with COPD and emphysema. She was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Bangor, the daughter of Francis and Helen Shumaker. She attended Bangor schools and was a 1951 graduate of Bangor High School. Barbara was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed her flower garden. In her later years her activities were limited due to her illness. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Wallace Miller; two daughters, Donna Shorey and her husband, Tom, of Hermon and Susan Patterson and her husband, Charles, of Orrington; son, George Miller and his wife, Ronnie, of Orrington; three brothers, Donald Shumaker, Louis Shumaker and his wife, Nancy, Paul Shumaker and his wife, Gladys; grandchildren, Jason, Christina, Adam, Jeff, Jessica and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Audrey, Emily and Mariah. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Irene; a brother, Roger; and a sister-in-law, Marylee Shumaker. A celebration of the life of Barbara J. Miller will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor after the service.
