HAMDEN, Conn. – Barbara Loretta Bonyai Starno, 84, of Belden Road in Hamden, died unexpectedly Tuesday Dec. 16, 2003 at St. Raphael’s Hospital. She was born Feb. 1, 1919, in New Haven, and has been a resident of Hamden since 1952. Barbara was a graduate of Hillhouse High School and a member of St. John the Baptist Church. She was employed by and retired from The Hospital of St. Raphael where she worked in the Nursery and Psychiatric Clinic. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas, her brothers, Stephen and Donald Bonyai and her sister, Marie Werner. She is survived by her brother, Harold of the Philippines; her loving children, Michael and Barbara Starno of Berkeley, Calif.; Arlene Richard Cassello of Wallingford, Nancy Starno and Paul Chambers of New Haven; as well as Thomas Starno and Kandi Robinson of Dedham. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Karyn and Matthew, Thomas and Katherine, Nicholas and Sierra; many nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends. Friends and relatives are invited to call 8:30-10:30 a.m. Sturday, Dec. 20, at the Sisk Brothers’ Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 800 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Burial will take place immediately following the Mass at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., New Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Father Michael McGivney Center for Cancer Care at the Hospital of St. Raphael, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven.
