MACHIAS – Marjorie K. MacRae, 70, went to be with the Lord, Dec. 18, 2003, following a long and courageous battle with several illnesses and complications from cancer. She was born Aug. 15, 1933, in the Kennebec District of Machias, to Harley C. and Louise G. Kilton. She attended the little Kennebec Schoolhouse next door to her parents’ home. She graduated from Machias High School in 1952. She went on to graduate from Providence Bible Institute in Providence, R.I. Marjorie taught two years in the Augusta school system and did substitute teaching in Machias. She worked at the Down East 5 & 10 store, the Machiasport Fish Factory and retired after 11 years with the Dept. of Human Services as a Social Worker. Marjorie was a dedicated and faithful member of Machias Valley Baptist Church, serving on different committees, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School classes, worked in Awana, and was truly an inspiration to all who knew her. She was well known for her quick wit. She was a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary. Marjorie will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 46 years, Karl MacRae Jr.; a daughter, Marie Cox and husband, Paul; a son, Martin MacRae and wife, Patty, all from the Machias area; two wonderful grandsons, Ryan MacRae, of Bangor, Christopher Cox of Machias; a sister, Lucille Blanche and husband, Charles, of Dixfield; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Kilton of Machias; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed by her many friends and acquaintances. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Ray “Tuddy” Kilton and Walter Kilton. At the family’s request there will be no visiting hours. A service to celebrate Marjorie’s life will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at the Machias Valley Baptist Church, Broadway, Machias with Pastor George Henderson officiating. A committal service will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Gideon Memorial Bibles in her memory. Cards for that purpose are available at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
