MILBRIDGE – Bartholomew “Bud” F. Millett, 85, died Thurs-day, Feb. 28, 2008, at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, Milbridge, after a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Bangor, the son of the late Bartholomew C. and Nellie (Gay) Millett. As a child, he attended and graduated from Milbridge High School. Upon graduation he went to work as an electric bridge operator in Rhode Island. Bud was drafted in to the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II, serving in China, Burma and India, becoming honorably discharged with rank of corporal. Upon discharge from the military, he relocated to Milbridge and owned and operated Milletts Grocery for 57 years, retiring in 2004. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed baseball, basketball and boxing. Bud adored his four great-grandchildren. He shared 59 years of marriage with Gloria (Hawkins) Millett of Milbridge. In addition to his wife, family members include a daughter, Betty West and husband, Wayne, of Steuben; two granddaughters, Julie Merritt and significant other, Ron Parritt, of Steuben, and Nicole Wescott and husband, Charles, of Clinton; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Nina, Austin and Amber; a brother, Francis A. Millett of Milbridge; several close friends and companions. He will be sadly missed by a close friend, Lewis Berry of Milbridge. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Gay Myles Millett, a casualty of World War II in the Philippines. Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home 11 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service.
