COLUMBIA – Bartlett “B.C.” Campbell Smith, 73, passed away April 21, 2005, at MCMH. He was born May 5, 1931, in Columbia. He graduated from Cherryfield Academy in 1950. B.C. served in the Korean War for three years. He was overseas for 13 months and 13 days. In the late 50’s, B.C. joined the Santa Monica police force and worked for the phone company. He also was on the Portland police dept. B.C. joined the Masons in 1989, was master from 1998-1999. B.C. enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was selectman for the town of Columbia for 21 consecutive years, from 1984 to present. Also he was an honorary member of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Dept. B.C. was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen (Grant) Smith; his wife, Mary (Plourde) Smith; his sister, Leslie Gray; and a nephew, Thomas Bartlett Bradley. He is survived by his sister, Frances Rossi of Washington; three children, Catherine Smith of Columbia, Russell Smith and his wife, Nancy, of Columbia, Stephen Smith and his wife, Paula, of Columbia Falls; two very special grandchildren, Megan (Smith) Burgess and her husband, Steven, of Steuben and Brandon Smith of Columbia Falls. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. A graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2005 at the Columbia Cemetery.
