WALTHAM – Benjamin F. Jordan, 86, died Jan. 9, 2006, at a Mount Desert Island hospital following a long illness. He was born Dec. 22, 1919, in Waltham, the son of Earle and Mabel (Salsbury) Jordan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Benjamin was self-employed in the family business E.K. Jordan & Sons. He loved his tractor and working on the land. He enjoyed camping, fishing and making whistles with his grandchildren. Benjamin enjoyed the holidays with his large family and was very “witty” throughout his life. He had been a member of the Waltham & Eastbrook Snowmobile Club and the Scenic Grange No. 529, of Waltham. Benjamin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hildred W. Jordan; three children, Carol Jordan and husband, James, of Ellsworth, Bernard Jordan and wife, Roxann, of Waltham and Carolyn Hopkins and husband, L.J., of Southwest Harbor; one brother, Harland Jordan; and a sister, Hildred H. Herrick; six grandchildren, Shawn Jordan and wife, Traci, Michael Jordan and wife, Tracy, Robert Jordan and wife, Melissa, Amy R. Jordan, Benjamin and Matthew Hopkins; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Macey and Elliot Jordan and Molly Hopkins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Rebecca May; two sisters, Ester Cousins and Merle Jordan; a brother, Roger Jordan. Friends are invited to visit with the family noon-1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will follow 1 p.m. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Waltham.
