BRADFORD – Berdena Margurite (Smith) Strout, 84, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 29, 2007, at a Bangor nursing home. She was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Bradford, the daughter of Lewis and Berdena (Skinner) Smith. Berdena graduated from Bradford High School and had been a lifelong resident here. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking and gardening. She especially enjoyed crocheting treasured items for her family members, as health would allow. Family and friends will remember her as kind hearted, hard working, thrifty and caring. The eldest of 11 children, she is survived by five brothers, Lewis Smith and his wife, Carole, of Lakeland, Fla., Albert Smith of Maine and Florida, Norman Smith and Amaryl of LaGrange, Donald Smith and Nancy of Millinocket and Shelden Smith and Rita of Passadumkeag; five sisters, Irene Wade and Orrin of Ansonia, Conn., Glennyse Legeza of Bangor, Shirley Clark and Elden of Corinth, Barbara Whitehead and Roger of Glenburn and Virginia Bryer and Gary of Edinburg; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be missed by many friends. She was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Ernest Lageza. In keeping with Berdena’s wishes, a private service will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth. Spring burial will be at Williams Cemetery, Bradford. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to a charity of their choice.
