CARMEL – Berley L. Leavitt, 81, died Nov. 13, 2007, at a Bangor hospital, after a long period of ill health. He was born April 5, 1926, in Mexico, Maine, the son of Lester L. and Hilma Marie (Piper) Leavitt. Berley was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS WASP as an aviation boatswain’s mate third class. During his time on the USS WASP, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was married to Margaret “Dottie” (Rankin) Leavitt for 28 years. She predeceased him in 1982. He was a heavy equipment operator working out of Local No. 4 for several years. He built, owned and operated Grandeur Mobil Home Estates, Carmel, and also owned and operated his own construction company in Carmel for many years. He was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Gregory and Wanda Leavitt of Carmel, Dale and Shelia Leavitt of Carmel; one daughter, Pamela Leavitt Vickers of Carmel; two granddaughters, Jessie Leavitt and Sara Vickers of Carmel; several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by a special friend, Ameila L. Gonyer of Carmel. He was predeceased by three brothers, Linwood, Sterling and Ray; also a special loving aunt, Katherine “Kaddie” Kirkpatrick.
