EDDINGTON – Bernard B. Wiles, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 11, 2005, at the Maine Veteran’s Home, Bangor. He was born June 16, 1920, in Patten, the son of Bert Wiles and Gertrude (Watson) Wiles. In his early years the family moved to Palmyra, where his father started a lumbering business. Barney soon worked in the family business with his brothers, Roland and Don. Barney served his country in the infantry during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Upon his return he met and married his beloved wife, Mary. He was employed by the Maine State Liquor Commission and eventually Webber Oil, where he worked until his retirement. Barney was an avid outdoorsman. Mary and Barney loved nature and spent much of their time camping and enjoying the Maine wilderness. After his retirement he continued to work part time for Webber Oil and his dear friends of 37 years, Pam and Bill Chapman, of Chapman Oil. Both Barney and Mary had a deep impact on friends and family. Their “down to earth” lifestyle and honesty touched all who knew them. Barney was predeceased by his wife, Mary Wiles; his parents, Bert and Gertrude Wiles; brothers, Don and Roland Wiles; and sister, Rowena York. He is survived by his sister, Elaine Joseph of Waterville. A special heart felt thanks from the family, to his friends, Pam and Bill Chapman and Frank and Dorothy Cole, for their love, friendship and help in caring for Barney in the years before his passing. A spring graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Maine Veteran’s Home Activity Fund, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME 04401. A service of Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
