SOUTH PORTLAND – Virginia (Ginny) Marie Kennedy, 81, of South Portland, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 10, 2005, at a Portland hospital with her family by her side. She was born May 13, 1923, in Steuben, a daughter of Hervey and Viola Workman Pettee. She attended Steuben schools and graduated from Steuben High School. Ginny was a bookkeeper for various companies, and a long time employee of the Sportsman’s Grill in several capacities, as well as an employee of the Cumberland Club for many years. During World War II, she was a riveter for the shipyard in South Portland. She could tell many interesting stories about that time. Surviving is a daughter, Viola Smith of Windham; granddaughter, Teresa Tarajos and her husband, Ignatius, of New York; her great-grandson, Ryan W. L. Smith of South Portland, who called Ginny his Big Gram; a son, James Sinclair of Milbridge; grandchildren, Michelle, Alison, Jamey, Adam Sinclair and their children; and her beloved cousin who was like a sister, Ruth Leighton and her husband Alton of Gouldsboro. She will be missed very much by her family and friends. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral will be held at the chapel 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, with the Rev. Philip Shearman officiating. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in her memory to the Animal Refuge League, 449 Stroudwater Street, Westbrook, ME 04092.
