LUBEC – Bernard William Doherty, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep July 17, 2006, at his residence. He was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Lubec, the son of James R. and Lena (Monroe) Doherty. He was employed for many years with the Maine DOT as a truck driver. He was a man who greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He loved working in his yard, vegetable and flower gardening, even getting his wood ready for winter. In his early years he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, especially duck and deer hunting. He was also known for telling “witty” stories. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Miriam (Kelley) Doherty; two sons, Allen and his wife, Theresa, of Bangor and James and his wife, Darlene, of Lubec; grandchildren, Daniel, Nicole, Sean, Erik and Seth; great-grandchildren, Hunter Doherty, Brianna, Kayla, Amelia and Emily Benson; nephews, Robert, Richard and Gerald Greene; and his canine companion, “Nick.” In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Sheldon Doherty; and a sister, Lillian Greene. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the West Lubec Methodist Church, with Pastor Dale Hupp officiating. Arrangements are in the care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
