BANGOR – Bernice I. Powers, 91, formerly of Old Town, and Brockton, Mass., died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at a local Bangor health care facility. Born Feb. 12, 1916, in Brockton, Mass., she was the daughter of Samuel and Bertha (Manchester) MacNervin. Bernice was a graduate of Brockton High School. She lived in Brockton, Mass., until moving to West Bridgewater, Mass., in 1966 and later to Old Town in 1999. For 30 years, she worked for Askers Bakery and Enterman’s Bakery, Brockton, Mass. At one time, she worked for Tollhouse, Whitman, Mass., and made the original Tollhouse Cookies. Bernice loved to garden and spend time outdoors. She was a member of the Eastern Star and United Methodist Pentecost Church, Brockton, Mass. She is survived by her son, Gary L. Powers and his wife, Martha, of Old Town; two grandsons, John Powers and his wife, Cindy, of Mechanic Falls and James Casey Powers of Old Town; one great-grandson, Eli Gary Powers of Mechanic Falls; one sister-in-law, Laura MacNevin of Brockton, Mass.; two nephews, Richard MacNevin and his wife, Arlene, of Brockton, Mass., and Greg Anglim and his wife, Susie, of Niantic, Conn.; special friends, Jennifer Collins of Old Town and Glenna Stevens of Bangor; and beloved dogs, Mya and Pinnacle. She was predeceased by her husband, John E. Powers; her parents; and four brothers, Byron MacNevin, Ernest MacNevin, Norris MacNevin and Russell MacNevin. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater, Mass.
