FORT KENT – Bernice R. Cyr, 83, died peacefully Dec. 21, 2007, at a Fort Kent health care facility. She was born May 22, 1924, in Fort Kent, the daughter of George and Leona (Daigle) Roy. Bernice was a very active volunteer in her community. She was a charter member of the American Legion, Fort Kent, for 61 years. Bernice was also a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, Fort Kent Bridge Club, Northern Maine Medical Center Hospital Guild and Fort Kent Senior Citizens Club. Bernice was the first woman to be president of Lonesome Pine Trails. She enjoyed downhill skiing, which she did every year until the age of 76. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading. She especially enjoyed time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Norma Cyr of Tampa, Fla., Elaine and her husband, Paul Levasseur, of Edmundston, New Brunswick, Reno and his wife, Linda Cyr, Rollande and her husband, Dan Vaillancourt, Dennis and his wife, Lynne Cyr, all of Fort Kent and Alma and her husband, Jack Grady, of Amesbury, Mass.; her 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Michelle and Francois Levasseur, Shelly and Benjamin Cyr, Andrew and Nicole Grady, Kayleigh, Lora and Davis Cyr, Cassie and Carter Vaillancourt. She is also survived by three sisters, Juliette Gagnon of Frenchville, Sylvia Ouellette of Fort Kent and Valerie Smith of California; one brother, Clifford Roy of Fort Kent; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Norman Cyr, D.D.S., in 2003; one daughter, Georgette Cyr; a son, Carl Cyr; and three sisters, Janet Cannan, Augustine Ford and Claire Bouchard. Friends may call 8:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Spring burial will be held May 9, 2008, at the parish cemetery.
