CARIBOU – Bernie J. Hol-mes, 90, died July 18, 2008, in Caribou. He was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Caribou, the son of Albert and Annie (Searles) Holmes. He attended Caribou schools and was employed by several area potato growers. He married Alma Cote Belanger in 1945 and she predeceased him in 2004. Mr. Holmes served as a military policeman with the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his two grandsons and their wives, Anthony “Tony” and Michelle Michaud of Gorham and Timothy “Tim” and Lori Michaud of Falmouth; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Dolores and Sterling Richards and Gloria and Willis Sutherland, all of Caribou; one brother, Edward of South Berwick; six grandchildren, numerous stepgrandchildren, great-stepgrandchild-ren, great-great-stepgrandchild-ren, several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family, as well as his devoted friends, Floyd Burby, Gloria Jones, Pat Mahoney, as well as all of his friends at McDonalds and Reno’s. Mr. Holmes was predeceased by his wife; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Wally Michaud; three brothers, Zennie, Oran and Osam; and two sisters, Eunice Thompson and Ivy Parker. Graveside services with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating.
