WINSLOW – Bertha M. Gallant, 88, wife of the late Terrance F. Gallant, died Jan. 9, 2006, at a Winslow healthcare facility. She was born June 14, 1917, in Foxcroft, the daughter of Jasper L. and Daisy (Mitton) Austin. Prior to her marriage in 1942, Bertha worked in her father’s grocery business and later at Barney’s Grocery in Dover-Foxcroft. She also worked for a time at Dexter Shoe Company and cooked at the Warren Home in Dover-Foxcroft. She is survived by a son, Terrance W. Gallant and his wife, Peggy, of Vassalboro; three grandchildren, Mechelle Nobiletti and her husband, Doug, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Glen Gallant and his wife, Diane, of Burnham and Angela Heckler and her husband, Robert, of Jacksonville, Fla.; four half-sisters, Katherine Sickenburger of Dexter, June Bucknam of Old Town, Faith Holland and Hope Lacourciere, both of Dover-Foxcroft, four great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years in 1992 and a daughter, Lynn in 1945. A graveside funeral service at the family lot in the Dover Cemetery will be announced in the spring.
