MARS HILL – Bertha M. Mersereau, 85, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, and wife of 59 years, to the late LeRoy M. Mersereau, died May 15, 2007, at her home. She was born June 22, 1921, in New Brunswick, the daughter of Harvey and Amanda (Demerchant) Bell. She was a faithful member of the Mars Hill United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. Bertha, for many years, ran Roy’s Dairy Bar on Main Street, Mars Hill. Raising her family and being involved with their lives gave her great joy. She loved working in her garden and giving of herself in so many ways. Bertha especially enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. She is survived by a son and his wife, Raymond W. and Judy A. Mersereau of Mars Hill; daughters, Sharon M Broad of Blaine, and Anna M. Turner and her husband, John, of Houlton; grandchildren, Heidi Broad Smith, Holly Trafford, Marc Mersereau, Scott Turner and Andrea Turner; great-grandchildren, Stephen Smith, Amber Trafford, David Smith, Andrew Smith, Brandon Trafford, Nicholas and Samuel Mersereau, Ciaran Turner, and Jordan Mersereau; sisters, Clara Grant of Bangor, Hazel Rideout of Mars Hill, and Joyce Clevette of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Broad; brothers and sisters, John Bell, Marie Billings, Ransford Bell, Edna Cass, Ronald Bell, Malcolm Bell, and Frank Bell. At her request graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Pierce Cemetery, Mars Hill, with the Rev. Richard Bell officiating. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, P.O. Box 426, Westbrook, ME 04092 or to Meals on Wheels, 33 Davis St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
