BREWER- Bessie Annie Van Dykes, 93, passed away Dec. 5, 2006, surrounded by her family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 29, 1913, in Houlton, the daughter of Solomon and Susan (Oxford) Devou. Bessie was a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and beloved wife for more than 60 years to Joseph Van Dykes Sr. She was a strong, courageous, loving woman to the end. Bessie is survived by her son, Joseph Van Dykes Jr. of Brewer; granddaughter, Cynthia Senes and husband, James, of Colchester, Conn.; great-grandchildren, Lydia and Samuel Senes; sister, Beatrice Wlodkowski of Kensington, Conn.; many nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by seven brothers and three sisters. Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 7 p.m. as the visitation concludes with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt officiating. Spring burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Houlton.
