WARREN – Eleanor F. Ames, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, after a long illness. Born Aug. 6, 1919, in Rockland, she was a daughter of Frank R. and Evelyn Knight Harper. She was educated in local schools and was a 1937 graduate of Rockland High School. Oct. 6, 1940, she married Maynard A. Ames at First Baptist Church, Rockland. After World War II, the couple made their home in Warren. Mrs. Ames worked at F.W. Woolworth’s, Rockland; W.T. Grant, Rockland and later in Bedford, Mass. While living in Warren, she was an active member of Warren Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk and as a Sunday school teacher. She also assisted her husband in the operation of his business, Knox Refrigeration, Thomaston. In 1967 she moved with her husband to Bedford, Mass. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford, Mass. In 1980 she moved with her husband to Alfred, where she resided until moving to her brother’s home in Warren. Mrs. Ames was predeceased by her son, David A. Ames in 1990; her husband in 1991; a sister, Ruth Dresser in 1997; and a brother, Richard O. Harper in 2006. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Brenda T. Ames of Billerica, Mass.; two brothers, Clifford E. Harper and his wife, Marilyn, of Warren, Keith L. Harper and his wife, Gayle, of Burkettville; as well as aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Branan Becknell officiating. Interment will be held after at McPhail Cemetery, Owls Head. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care & Hospice, 170 Pleasant St., Rockland, ME 04841.
