BESSIE ‘NORA’ RAYMOND BANGOR and BREWER – Nora Raymond, 87, wife of the late Wilford Raymond, died Sept. 23, 2005, in Bangor. She was born June 30, 1918, in Greenville, Ala., the daughter of Merton and Bessie (Salyer) Till. Nora came to Maine from Alabama in 1946 with her late husband Willie. She joined the First United Methodist Church, Bangor, where she was an active member all of her life. In 1949, Nora joined the Bangor Grange, where she held many offices. She was also a member of Penobscot Pamona and the Maine State Grange. In 1999, she was honored with a 50-year membership certificate of which she was very proud. She remained an active member up until her death. Nora was well known for her prize winning flower garden and productive vegetable garden which she generously shared with friends and neighbors. Surviving are four children and their spouses, Joe and Maria Raymond of Manahawkin, N.J., JoAnn and Don Dyer of Salem, N.H., Priscilla and Al Soucie of Bangor, Gloria Raymond and John Ehrlich of Boxborough, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Courtney Adams, Meghan Longacre, Chris and Andy Dyer, and Dominic, Matt and Adrienne Soucie; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dot Keeney of Auburn, Ala., Grace Wasden and Polly Herrring, both of Greenville, Ala.; a brother, Sam Till of Montgomery, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Ella Claire Till of Greenville, Ala., Cecile Morrill of Brewer; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Brewer Rehab and St. Joseph Hospital, for the loving care they gave our mother. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Services will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Randall Chretien, pastor officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the family room of the church, following the service. Private interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Those wishing to remember Nora in a special way may contribute in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, Bangor.
