BANGOR – Betty A. Grover joined her husband, Henry, in heaven April 7, 2007, after a long illness due to complications of diabetes. Betty was born June 29, 1929, in Old Town, the third child of Roy E. Bates and Evelyn E. (Brooks) Bates. She married Henry A. Grover Feb. 15, 1948, in Bangor. Making a home for her husband and six children was Betty’s passion in life. She worked extremely hard inside and outside her home to care for her family. She worked for many years as a stitcher for local shoe factories. Her straightforwardness and sense of humor will be fondly remembered by her family and all those who knew her. Betty loved music and drawing. When her grandchildren were asked what they most remembered about “nana,” they said they remembered her playing her organ and taking them for ice cream. She is survived by her children, Brenda M. Grover of Chicago, Ill., Rosanna L. Libby and her husband, Philip, of Newburgh, Doreen E. Moss and her husband, Sidney, of Bangor, Cheryl A. Morgan and her husband, Bruce, of Manchester, William A. Grover of Colorado and Henry A. Grover Jr. of Swanville; a sister, Rita E. Woodward of Ellsworth; a brother, Richard Tait of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, in 1995. She was also predeceased by her parents; stepfather, Harry Tait; her brother, Robert Bates, Claude Tait; and by a sister, Norma Rau. Betty’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Atkins, Lisa Roscher and the wonderful staff at Westgate Manor for the compassion, kindness, excellent care and love they gave our mother, Betty Boop, as she was affectionately known, while a resident there. You gave her family a sense of peace knowing our mom was in such loving hands. In Celebration of Betty’s life, a graveside memorial service is scheduled for Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Hillside Cemetery in Newburgh. Memorial donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Westgate Manor, kitchen fund, 750 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401. Funeral arrangements are being made by Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Messages of condolence or memories may be shared through www.hampdengilpatrick.com
