LISBON FALLS – Blanche T. Smith, formerly of Yarmouth, died in her sleep Sept. 27, 2003. She died peacefully after a summer of doing what she loved, camping at the Big Eddy and enjoying friends. She was born in Prentiss, the only daughter of Philo and Madelene (Hurd) Bearce. She was raised in North Yarmouth and graduated from Greely High School. She won a local beauty contest when she was 16. On Sept. 9, 1950, she married George (Peanut) Smith. They built a house together in Yarmouth and raised four children there. This year they celebrated 53 years together. She worked various jobs including owning a restaurant know as the Snack House. Her last job, before she retired, was managing the kitchen for Brentwood Manor Nursing Home. She was an avid candlepin bowler in the 60s and 70s. She won many state titles and appeared on TV several times. All her life she collected salt and pepper shakers. The collection displayed in a doll house, was pictured in the local news. Her greatest love was cooking for friends and family. She also enjoyed crocheting and other crafts. Survivors besides her husband are daughter, Philene Berry; two sons and wives, Michael Smith and Lucille, George (Eddy) Smith Jr. and Julie; daughter and husband, Zelda Smith and Tim McClure; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father; mother; and four brothers, Elwood, Roland, Philo and Keith. There are no visiting or funeral services per her request. A remembrance celebration will be held 1 p.m. Oct. 4, at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland. Instead of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association, P.O.
