DEER ISLE – Blanche V. Bye, 87, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at a Deer Isle healthcare facility. She was born Oct. 6, 1917, in South Portland, the daughter of George and Jenny (Reed) Pettengill. Blanche worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years and was postmaster in Stonington for 16 years before retiring in 1980. She is survived by a daughter, Karen E. Bye of Fresno, Calif.; a son, Charlie Bye and his wife, Alice, of Deer Isle; three grandsons, Steven Bye and Brean of Ankeny, Iowa, Andrew Bye and his wife, Laurel, of Stonington, and Matthew Bye of Casco; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Blanche was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Charles (Norman) Bye, on April 16, 1999; three brothers, George, Stanley, and Lester Pettengill; and two sisters, Pearl Oliver and Doris Harmon. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Greenwood Cemetery, Oceanville. Arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Stonington.
