KENDUSKEAG – Bonnie S. Freyenhagen, 41, died unexpectedly Monday, April 16, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. Born October 6, 1965, in Portland, she was the daughter of James and Patricia Bingham Freyenhagen. Bonnie was educated in Union schools, and was a 1984 graduate of Medomak Valley High School. Immediately after high school she attended Pierre’s School of Beauty, Portland. Although she didn’t finish her training, she cut hair for friends and family. Her sister remembers her as often saying, “I’m a beautician, not a magician.” For several years Bonnie was employed as a phlebotomist at Maine Medical Center, Portland, a position she was very proud of. In the late 1990s, she decided to follow in the footsteps of many of the women in her family and became a certified nurse’s assistant. In 2000, Bonnie moved with her fiance, Jeffrey, to Kenduskeag to be near his family and friends. The two enjoyed camping, traveling and playing cards together. Bonnie was a collector and had an extensive collection of teddy bears and clowns. She was also an animal lover. When Bonnie was younger, she had ferrets, cats and dogs, that she considered her kids. In her last few years her adored rottweiler, Havoc had been beside her at all times. Although she fought a 36-year battle with diabetes that eventually robbed her of her sight and mobility, her family said she had an exceptional outlook on life. They said Bonnie was a fighter and took on each new challenge that came her way. Bonnie was predeceased by both her maternal and paternal grandparents. She is survived by her parents, James and Patricia Freyenhagen of Union; her fiance, Jeffrey Seifert of Kenduskeag; one brother, James Freyenhagen and his wife, Liz, of Washington; one sister, Becky McMillan and her husband, Paul; one nephew, Patrick Brown, all of Lisbon Falls; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A private interment will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, Portland Maine Office, 80 Elm St., Portland, ME 04101.
