CARIBOU – Brenda Jean “Nana” DeMerchant, 59, beloved wife, daughter, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at her home in Caribou Jan. 12, 2006, surrounded by the family and friends she loved so much. She was born Oct. 18, 1946, in Washburn, the daughter of Darrell and Elizabeth (Campbell) Belmain. She was a 1964 graduate of Caribou High School and in 1965, she married the love of her life, Donald DeMerchant. Brenda dedicated her life to her husband of more than 41 years, Donald and their family, but her life long love was taking care of children. She began caring for children as a young girl and went on to own and operate a successful day care business in Caribou for more than 32 years. She and Donnie adopted their first daughter, Holli in 1974, when she was two days old; their second daughter, Nicole was born in 1982. Brenda truly loved watching her four grandchildren grow and had hoped to see them graduate from high school and start families of their own. She will be forever loved and remembered for her dedication and commitment to her family and friends. Surviving in addition to her husband, Donald; and her mother, Elizabeth Belmain, both of Caribou; are her daughters, Holli Doody and her husband, Matt, of Caribou, Nicole DeMerchant and her fiance, Wayne Fox, of Caribou; her sisters, Joyce Rediker and her husband, Jerry, of Southington, Conn., Christina Donovan and her fiance, Donald Sawyer, of Washburn and Marilyn Swafford and her husband, Randy, of Woodland; her beloved grandchildren, Justin, Jared and Jaelynn Doody and Ryleigh Fox and many nieces and nephews. Brenda was predeceased by her father Darrell Belmain; and her brother, Glenwood Belmain. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Anna Beach, assisted by Mary Lou Brown, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in Brenda’s memory may do so through Visiting Nurses Hospice of Aroostook or St. Judes Children’s hospital.
